Introduction
The Bank was buzzing with anticipation as fans packed the stands on Cancer Awareness night. Their cheers were echoing off the boards. Both of the team’s players skated onto the ice with laser focus, their skates with fresh new pink laces cutting sharp lines as they warmed up. This huge conference rivalry matchup was a crucial game. With Woburn being 5-0 and Reading being 4-1, it was a fight for the top spot.
The Game
The first period was a battle of defense, with both goalies making incredible saves to keep the scoreboard empty. Woburn goalie, Adam Gerry, was a wall, stopping a flurry of shots during tense moments as Reading kept possession on Woburn’s side most of the period. Meanwhile, Reading Goalie, Owen Holland, came in clutch, stopping breakaways and keeping Reading in the game.

The second period was where the game opened up. Reading was pounding Woburn’s zone. But Adam Gerry and the Woburn defense put a stop to the madness. After a couple of scrappy possessions, Reading forward, Micheal Boutiette, headed to the penalty box for an illegal elbow to the head. During the power play, Woburn got some good chances, but Reading's penalty kill held up. A few minutes later, Woburn got a breakaway and scored a nice goal to go up one. The momentum in the arena shifted to Woburn, but Reading’s crowd still had hope with one period to go.

By the third period, tensions were high. Reading kept attacking the Woburn goal and eventually won a penalty shot with twelve minutes remaining after Woburn defenders covered up the puck. The senior Kevin Lentell lined up to take the shot for the chance for his first varsity goal. Lentell took the shot without hesitation, and hits it hard right in the bottom left corner. The crowd went crazy and it motivated the team to score a goal fifty two seconds later. It was scored by Liam Hansen after a nice pass from Aidan Shaughnessy. After another thirty three seconds, Reading scores again from a nice pass from Nolan Sullivan to Jack Melly. After that goal, the game settled down but Woburn attacked. After some nice saves from Holland, captain Nate Mulvey escapes on an empty net and taps it in. That put the game away for Reading with the final score being 4-1. Both teams are now 5-1 and it will be interesting to see how these teams' seasons play out.
